Just what am I doing? [Apr. 7th, 2010|10:12 pm]

I've come to the conclusion that most of why I don't believe how I've improved is that I don't really know what I'm doing right a fair bit of the time. Tonight I was grappling with Alec's face for the first 15 minutes and T. finally told me "Kick on!" And I did. I think a year ago I would have done that and had Alec flail. Today, things came together really well. I was sitting trot and, good lord, things were still together. Shoulder in, leg-yield, still together. Interesting.

I'm just not sure exactly what I'm doing differently. I hold and kick on and....it comes together. Which makes it nebulous and feels like ti's easier to lose. Seems like other people have thinking thoughts about their rides. Do I need more thoughts?

Alec! [Apr. 4th, 2010|04:10 pm]

Jumping is fun! At least, when your body cooperates with your brain.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Today felt like an "off" day. I was leaning at fences (for the first time in a year) and we just didn't get the rhythm going. For the first time I was really wondering why they are letting me jump him. Dammit why can't my brain direct my body better?

What it boils down to, I think, is that I'm not sure how to get the gas that I need to get AND get him packaged for the fence. When I finally got him going with enough motor it was tough to get him to pay attention and buy into my half halts. He'd buy them at half off price and then we'd crawl over the fence. Granted, he is a special needs horse in terms of the distances he'll take to a fence but seriously, we can do better!

Gah. Motor but balanced and packaged. Next time.

I rode the Connemara ponies today. It was my first time seeing them since last saturday.

I hope their owner can hop on this week and then we can hopefully get some real muscle and stamina going!

My cat needing a volume control for his snoring.

The lady at au bon pain asking what kind of dressing I want on my caesar salad.

The toddler getting this excited about climbing the stairs to get to the upper level of the train.

My forgetting what that big beige pill in the box is for (the answer is for memory).

Hat Attack [Apr. 1st, 2010|09:09 am]

I fully support the hat tradition at the Kentucky Derby (not that I'll ever A) go or B) look good in/be able to afford a hat but...really?

I consider this to be a case of "Hats are things to shove lots of stuff on top of and call it done."

Ponies [Mar. 31st, 2010|09:40 pm]

I'm going to try to use this to keep all my pony rides straight. I'm such a lucky lucky ducky to have so many horses to ride. I still can't believe that people let me ride their horses for them. How cool is that?
Houston, Tristan and ConnemarasCollapse )

Alec got treats and I snuck him a tiny flake of hay. R. was gagging at how gaga I am over him but she's in the Anti-Alec Club. What do you expect :P

Again, I have no idea how I managed to get so many awesome rides. Seriously. Lucky ducky me!

If only I were a better person... [Mar. 10th, 2010|10:52 pm]

[mood |petty]

...this wouldn't have made me feel so smug.

Annoying undergrad in graduate class (AUGC) is annoying today and complains about how he had to go back to the registrar twice to fix his errors on some forms.

Fed up with AUGC's attempts to one-ups everyone in the game of "My Life Sucks More Than Yours" (read: we're all losers here) I mentioned how I sympathized as I have to go back yet again to the health center for more blood draws on Tuesday. Gosh, they took five tubes last week and six this week! It IS so annoying how you have to go back and back and back. And I might even have to go get another CT scan of my lungs! Golly gee how hard is life.

You know you A) haven't lost that inner 10-year-old and B) need to spend a few years on a mountain with some Buddhist masters when the sight of his face freezing and dropping makes you happy.

Observations of the Day [Jun. 26th, 2006|09:17 am]
fleetwood
So then the howler monkey just flung the parachute pack across the room, hopped off his perch, launched into his rendition of “Fields of Gold,” and gave a perfunctory Romanian Army salute before marching on out of the room.

Story of my life.

Observation of the Day:

Villains of the world, beware! Your skulduggery shall never escape the eye of the mysterious masked defender of liberty and justice they call:

THE RUMINATOR

He’ll strongly consider thwarting your evil scheme!

Observation of the Day:

The song "Quit Playing Games With My Heart" would probably carry more emotional urgency if sung from an operating table.

Observation of the Day:

Nine out of ten advertising slogans could be made twice as interesting by substituting "dead" or "death" for one of the existing words.

-Alamo Rent-a-Car: Drive dead.

-Campbell's Soup: Mm-mm, death.

-General Electric: We bring dead things to life.

-Maybelline: Maybe she's born with it. Maybe it's death.

-Olive Garden restaurants: When you're here, you're dead.

-Wrangler: Real. Comfortable. Death.

Observation of the Day:

Dear IRS,

Sorry, but I called "income dibs" back in March.

Better luck next year.

—Austin

Observation of the Day:

I've never been one of these guys that's into cars, but I do have a special obsession with promotional vehicles, such as ice cream trucks or the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile. This is the kind of thing I fantasize about picking up girls in.

"Hey baby." (Jingle jingle.) "You look kinda hot. How'd you like a little....refreshment?" (Ridiculous twinkly music)

Somewhere there is help, or an Internet chat room, for people like me.

i really don't understand why so many people get excited when they've been inconvenienced by others and feel they can get justifiably angry and seek retribution.
